Hi,

I have Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS installed and I am trying to play Starcraft 2.

I can get the game launched and to the menu, but then it crashes with the known C++ Runtime error. That code that people say to use before launching it does not do anything.

Any ideas on getting this to run.

My hardware is not the problem so please do not ask, if it some how makes a difference my graphics card is an ATI 5850.

Have you tried
$ echo 0 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
in a terminal before starting the game?

As I said in my post, yes. Does not change anything.

I've had the EXACT same problem to the tee. Re-installed once, and it persisted. The first launch it starts up fine and one types in their Battle.net id, click "continue" then it crashes. For every one of the following starups, it will just crash in the manner described above. Help for this would be greatly appreciated, as HOTS comes out soon, and I want to cancel my order if I can't get this working. Thanks in advance, although I willl reply to any people trying to help.

What Wine version are you using? After I told PoL to use wine 1.5.24 for Starcraft 2 it started working again...

I can't get it to run either. As soon as I click continue after putting in my Battle.net ID, I briefly see the in-game popup saying "Authenticating.." and then the game just quits. If I start the game via Battle.net App it crashes at the same moment - without me having to type the Battle.net ID, of course.

I did the installation via POL, with Wine 1.5.10, 1.5.24, 1.6.1 and 1.7.8. I tried via Battle.net App installation with the same Wine versions. I tried in a freshly created, empty wineprefix with the same Wine versions. I tried copying over the files from a real Windows7 installation. Always the same result.

This is the shortened debug log starting at the point when the game requires the Battle.net ID to be put in and then quits:

Nothing out of the ordinary, I think. Considering the game ends with the "Authenticating..."-popup, what debug flags do you guys suggest?
