Well, This was tested to work on 8.2.2 and above. Not 8.2.1. If you are having issues with the keyboard and mouse, I think there are more issues at hand, because I have installed ableton using this script on all 4 of my computers, as well as a couple of friends linux machines (and mixed flavours of ubuntu), and its worked like a charm every time.

I see. The CD I have is 8.2.1. I downloaded a newer version from Ableton (8.3.4) but it only comes as an .msi file, which doesn't seem to work with the script. Any suggestions?

I don't know the result, but the script could be modified to use POL_AutoWine instead of POL_Wine for the installation.
POL_AutoWine detects and handles .msi files (by running msiexec on them).

Thanks. I modified the script section that deals with the install file to use POL_AutoWine* functions and I was able to install Ableton using the downloaded .msi file. However, I still have the same issues with the keyboard/mouse.

Hmm. I didnt anticipate the msi file.

The keyboard and mouse issue has to be related to your computer. I just installed it on a friends xubuntu setup the other day with no issues. Out of the 20 or so times I have had to install this on about 6 different systems, none of them had input issues. Not even MIDI input issues from USB MIDI keyboards.

What is your setup? Are you using a wireless mouse and keyboard combo? USB, bluetooth, or oldschool? Give us some more info on your setup, as I highly suspect a misconfiguration or a hardware conflict resulting in WINE not taking input from your devices.

Petch - do you think that the script can be updated to use autowine, if you think it will be more effective?

funkleg - Hey. Actually, list all of your computer specs, as well as your make/model of keyboard, arch, version of linux, etc.. I really want to figure this out now. hahaha. Its just such an odd issue.

Sorry it took me a while to get back. Been trying to build clients for my business. :)

Hey, I have the same problem here. I read funkleg's post and make the virtual desktop as he said and got also the same right click touchpad problem...My computer is a HP HDX 16 series laptop. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS... :/

I have no clue what would be in common between yours and his, simply because funkleg didnt give the information I requested, and I cannot compare it to yours.

Im using it with no problem, as are a few of my friends on different versions of linux. You are the only two that have had this problem, so there has to be something in common with your systems. Im not sure what, though.

I have installed ableton 8.2.2 just as play on linux guide me to do...When i first installed it, the keyboard shortcuts and mouse right click didnt work..But when i try to enable virtual desktop then keyboad shortcuts works fine but the problem of right clicking still remains...When i press right click it flashes the whole window screen and if i spam press it some times it tries to open the right click menu but instantly folds again...

I don think that virtual desktop is the answer, as I never run it in virtual desktop, and neither do anyone else. I really think its your keyboard/mouse controller or something. Im at a loss as to why it doesnt work.

Maybe run playonlinux from the terminal (without virtual desktop. Its shouldnt be needed) and try to use keyboard shortcuts and the right click (basically, recreate the problem) then copy and paste the terminal output here, so that we can see if it spits out any errors when trying to use those.

Also, it may be a Unity problem. No one that I know that run it on Linux now use Unity, so that may be an issue there. Im not sure, though.

The fact is that when i disable virtual desktop, right clicking works fine but keyboard shortcuts are dead... :/

Like I said, ignore virtual desktop, and leave it off. It is not needed. There is something else causing it, and virtual desktop doesnt fix it, it just switches the errors.

Try this:

PlayOnLinux -> Configure -> select Ableton virtual drive -> click Wine tab -> Click Wine Configuration -> select Graphics tab -> UNcheck "Allow the window manager to control the windows"

See if that helps. Right-click is a million times more important than keyboard shortcuts, so lets leave virtual desktop off, and go from there. Trust me, its not needed.

Citer

Yes that's correct.

But the problem remains.. :/

I tried your suggestion and also tried to uncheck them all but still the same..

Please keep in mind that when i UNcheck "Allow the window manager to control the windows" it enables keyboard shortcuts but the right click seems to conflict with the abletons window making it flash (like it does when you try to click on a window when another window is on top of it) but when i spam right click i can see right click menu appears for just like 1ms and then dissapears making the window flashing...

Ok. Thats how troubleshooting works. Lol. Swing and a miss. Lets try something else.

I kept all of it in mind. So, set that option back to letting the window manager control the windows. re-check that box, and lets try something else.

Now, you are using Ubuntu, correct? Are you using just regular Ubuntu 12.04? Or are you running Xubuntu or Kubuntu?

The reason that I ask, is I think its a problem with Unity.

Would you be willing to try another window manager just to test it out? Like XFCE, KDE, or Cinnamon? I really think its an issue with Unity.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS not X,K or anything else..

Im going to say lets try KDE first, as that is what I am using, and I know that it will work on my system.

You can install it from the terminal with this command:

sudo apt-get install kde-full

Restart your system, and when it boots up, you can choose KDE from the login menu. Its the little Ubuntu logo. Click that, and it will give you the option to switch it to KDE.

I knew it. :) Its a Unity issue. I will add a note in to the description regarding this. I know it will work in GNOME and a few others. Ubuntu really went their own way (reminds me of Fleetwood Mac's song) with Unity. So far, I have tested it working perfectly in KDE, XFCE, gnome-panel, Cinnamon, and Mate. Id be willing to be that Unity is the issue for sure.

Glad this helped.

I cannot find XFCE, Cinnamon or Mate on Software center.. :/
Is there any way to install it on 12.04?
Also that changed my boot screen from purple ubuntu to debian black.
Thats not an issue for me but, just to know...

Yes. XFCE is there. Its called xfce4. Its in there. If you go to a command line and type:

sudo apt-get install xfce4

it will install it.

Cinnamon and Mate have to be installed via PPA.
