Hello everyone!
i should say now that i ame very noob in wine and have not made any game run in wine at all.
but i do want to make witcher work.
so i`ve installed EE version 1.4 using POL. first i got privilege errors, but i solved them by using no cd. and now i am getting an error about failure in .exe here is the backtrace: http://pastebin.com/vRg8AnWK
what am i doing wrong? should i apply 1.5 patch or install windows .dll's?

i got theese errors when launching a game from console:
err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 0x2a713480 is being unloaded while mapped.
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
err:d3d:wined3d_wndproc Window 0x20022 is not registered with wined3d.

RenderTargetLockMode"="textex" will fix it.

That's strange, because according to the Wine doc this is the default setting

thats strange indeed...

when i changed that key in registry all the character models started to work.

according to http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
default is
readtex - Reading with glReadPixels, writing by drawing a textured quad (default)]

and there seems to be no textex key at all.

Hi,

thx for your report.

textex support has been dropped, that's why it's not availiable anymore.

I fixed this issue in POL installer.

so how can i install the fixed version of POL? i am using archlinux and it says that i have latest version already...

and by the way i have wine 1.5.12 installed separately of POL and in default wine prefix i installed Witcher and changed render mode to textex via winetricks but when i launch witcher with wine 1.5.12 from the default prefix without POL problem remains...

i changed this variable manualy with regedit but it seem that it did not do the trick..(( sad.

so it seems that Linux Magic helped me.
first time i used console (guake to be precise) to run POL with optirun and got the discribed result. second time i used console again to run witcher directly with optirun and system wine. then i wright a script
optirun wine "/home/shohart/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/The Witcher.Gold Edition/System/witcher.exe"
and run it with gmrun.
and it works! all the models appeared finally!
thanx everyone for help!

my bad bro. did not realize tha it matters.
anyway everything came back.
first it was perfect... than after third restart (was testing did not belive my luck) it started with black "puppeter stripes", than after a couple of restarts and deleating witcher's folder in ~/home (where saves are stored) my models gone again... as every magic, this one did not last long... sad.((

try switching registry key UseGLSL disabled and/or enabled.
i think it had to be enabled.

it is enabled. i tried both ways - same result. it seems that wine does not react at registry keys at all, because when on a short momen all the models appeared, i tried different registry keys to ensure that i can control situation - i set render to texdraw, then to readtex, and models were still there. then i switched back to textex and they were still there again... but after a while came "puppeter stripes", i removed the witcher's folder in ~/home and models gone....

hmm ...maybe something keeps ur wine proccesses running. so if u change something it doesnt apply because proccess is running.

try killall -9 wineserver before u start tweaking the settings

just a wild guess tho

Edit:

or u are changing settings in wrong wineprefix
