Magicka - cannot get it to run - aborts with no messages

Slackware 13.37 64 bit
Magicka Steam version
My desktop is xfce
Phenom 6 core ... 3600MHz I think
8GB ram
.5TB free disk space (or so)
POL current downloaded with git

Magicka. Install proceeds with no obvious problems.

I try to run the program. I get the "Magicka CD key dialog" I click Play. It goes into Installing Microsoft .NET Framework (step 1 of 3).

After like ten minutes, it changes to installing Microsoft XNA framework (which I'm pretty certain was installed during the initial install)

Then it goes to Installing something step 3 of 3, so quick I can't follow it. Then nothing.

Try again....connects to steam account. Brings up Magicka CD key dialog. Then nothing.

Then it brings up the Steam Update News dialog that you get when you play a game and then exit. It looks like Magicka does not run, or immediately aborts with no indication or errors at all, no warnings, nothing.

How to troubleshoot this?

Update: I went into the wineprefix and started steam directly, instead of going through POL.

I see this:

err:module:import_dll Library msvcm90.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\magicka\\\\SteamWrapper.dll") not found

This looks pretty straight forward (like anything is straight forward?) and I'm going to see what it takes to get it installed. I'll report status. Anyone have anything to say about this that would help, please comment.

Update. Manually installing vcrun2008 via winetricks:

env WINEPREFIX="/home/zoot/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/magicka" winetricks vcrun2008

Fixes this, but then I get:

err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.

At this point I find Bug 251, Magicka crashed while running, shows same error I have.

The bug report page also shows: Status changed to Refused

I'm not quite sure where to go from here. This is not a magicka problem only, I find it reported with other games via wine. I've posted a message on the wine appdb list for Magicka.

Fixed!

For some reason, the registry key KHCU.software.wine.Direct3D.UseGLSL is set to disabled, and this keeps Magicka from starting. Whatever adds this registry key is setting it to disabled, and this registry does not normally exist in a default wine config. Not sure if it is the Magicka install, or the POL script doing this...

Unfortunately, I get about 1fps. Yeah, one frame per second LOL. At least it is a step in the right direction.
