Hello,
i am using ubuntu 10.10 and playonlinux and trying to get counterstrike source to run.
What happens is that i can get as far as "preparing to launch counterstrike" box then it disappears and i am back to the library box. I did have css up and running, but it now it wont go at all(it was a bit slow).

I have compiz turned off....

Many thanks,
steve.

Denieru,
my css does not crash after 6 seconds but i do know how to solve your problem(i think). You have set your graphic options to high in counterstrike...you must turn down UNTILL you get css to run. You can fine tune after that to get the best looking graphics that you can...this worked for me, hope it helps you.

Well what I mean is that the "preparing to launch counter strike" is up and then it dissapears, and after 6 seconds it says I'm not in game. So "crash" might be the wrong word, I guess "not starting" is better.

to be honest, i have been trying for a couple of years to get css to run in various linux os`s(open suse, ubuntu etc) and even having a high end pc it will always run slower than windows. The only way is if valve port steam/css to linux, and it will not happen this year, if ever.

I have therefore had to bite the bullet and go back to win 7, which runs css perfectly...but then opens my machine up to the normal malware/virus invasion....just goes to prove that every os has its problems.

I did look up loading snow leopard on to my pc, but thats just fraught with more problems than linux....

Well I do keep both Ubuntu and Windows XP on my machine. They're on separate partitions and all my data is on Linux, so I'm not afraid to go play on Windows. If I get viruses, I just format and start anew, everything on Linux is fine.

Disclaimer: I'm a noob, not a dev; my advice is only a guess.
Attention : Je suis aussi noob que vous, prenez mes suggestions avec un grain de sel ;)

It seems that the Nov. 19 steam update is causing this to not work. I have just started using linux and playonlinux and the only game that plays on steam for me is killing floor.

surely there is an update to fix playonlinux for counterstrike source users...it is after all the most popular online game in the world ?
