I'm trying to run Knights of the Old Republic 1.03 using PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu 10.04, but I'm getting heavy graphics flickering (completely unplayable) when doing so. I can view the movies and the menu works flawlessly. But once I enter the actual game, it's flickering too much to even be able to see what's happening.

I've installed it using the built-in script and I have tried running it in wine 1.1.18, 1.1.42 and 1.1.42, with similar results regardless of version. I've followed every piece of advice I could find on getting it to run in Wine My graphics card is an ATi HD4850, and I'm using the proprietary driver version 8.723-100-406a-099494C-ATI.

Since I don't know how to launch an application from a terminal, using PlayOnLinux, I can't give you any terminal output. But if you'll tell me how, I'd be happy to provide you with it. I've tried getting it to run on my laptop, but there it simply crashes. It won't even work in windows 7. :sad: I would be super happy to get this great game to work!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it doesn't matter whether or not compiz is enabled. I get the same flickering regardless.

Faulty graphic drivers are here to blame. I don't know if you can do anything about it because I don't have experience with radeon graphic cards. You may want to disable all enhancing options in driver configuration. You can also try to disable glsl in POL for that specific game.

Aw, that sucks! :( Is there any hope of getting the game working on an intel mobile 4 series graphics chip using the i915 driver?

Guess I'm screwed then. :sad: I knew I shouldn't have gotten an ATI card.

I'm happy to say that I've replaced my ATi HD4850 with an Nvidia GTS 250, and now it's working beautifully!
