Hey,
My issue is exactly as it reads in the title. Everything went smoothly from download, to choosing Wow. It asks my my installation method and I choose "1 DVD", it asks me where my DVD is, and I tell it, but then it tells me to mount it despite the fact that it is already mounted, and then tells me
this:
Error: Unable to find CDROM!
I have tried unmounting and remounting my cdrom (cdrom0), but that doesn't seem to help. I'm just here wondering if anyone can give me a hand with this, as I would really love to have WoW up and running.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hello,
I have made some progress on this while reading the forums. I found a thread that indicated that because the DVD I am using is dissimilar from the original cdroms that POL has been configured for, it will not be recognized in POL, and because of this I should select "Install a .pol package or an unsupported application". I gave this a shot, and it took me through the steps, but the installation always shuts down before it gets started.
I choose to install an unsupported application, and then it asks me what to do about prefix's, and I just tell it to configure wine, but I'm not sure if there are specific configurations that I need to make. After that, I point it to the "Installer.exe" file on the dvd, which it finds, but then in terminal it says:
"find: `/home/trevor/.PlayOnLinux/WineVersions/*': No such file or directory
wine: Module not found"
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'll keep trying.

Hey again,
I'm really sorry about all the repeat messages, I'm just trying to provide as much info as I can. So I just tried this again, and found the differences in my 1st and second output. In the first, I chose to choose a wine setup, chose "system" from the drop down box (only one available at the time), and then tried to run the installation.
In the second I chose to configure wine. As soon as I chose to configure wine this popped up in terminal:
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory

mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
fixme:msgack_message msg 14 (WM_ERASEBKGND) not supported yet
fixme:msgack_message msg 14 (WM_ERASEBKGND) not supported yet
and then after I indicated to POL where the installation file was, and tried to run it, I got this: wine:
Module not found
Not sure if those tongue sticking out faces are going to pop up again, but they actually read just as they show up, I'm not sure why those guys appeared between g and ack_

I would recommend you to open PlayOnLinux and press "Tools"->"Manage Wine-versions".
Install version 1.1.26 and version 1.1.39.
Also install this plugin for POL, called POLHelper.
Now do as you've done already, but choose 1.1.26 as your Wine-version before you locate the installation file.
After the usual installation you'll have to make a launcher. (Press Yes on "do you want a shortcut" and locate the launcher.)
When the game has installed, open PlayOnLinux and launch POLHelper. (Plugins->POL Helper)
Press "Edit POL launcher" and select the WoW-launcher you've done. Now change the Wine-version to 1.1.39 and add (*space*) -opengl at the end of the "command line" text-box.
You might want to download the patches manually instead of using the launcher.
(If you have problems there are a lot of hints and HowTo's here. If you need more help, just tell us and we will do our best. :) WoW is a very popular application, so it is many users who has got it to work perfectly.) Edité par Dr Phil

I might add that the easiest installation is copying an already installed game.
That way you won't have to patch or install, just copy+paste.

Hey Dr. Phil,
Thank you very much for replying, I appreciate all your help. I purged wine from my system before reading your message, because I thought that re-installing wine would help. In any case, I installed wine the way you sgugested, through tools-> manage wine versions, and have proceeded with the explanation as per your instructions.
The thing is I don't know how to choose my wine version. When I get to the option to choose to configure wine, the wine config window opens up, but I am totally lost about how to go about choosing the version I need.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated, and thanks for everything so far!

Hey Dr. Phil,
So I went about things the way that you suggested, and when I proceeded with the install I got this output from terminal:
wine: could not load L"D:\\\\Installer.exe": Module not found
Any ideas on this? Thanks a lot!

Heya,
Again, sorry for all of the messages, but I just wanted to add that the disc I am using is a single DVD for the installation of The Original World of Warcraft, as well as The Burning Crusade. I'm not sure if that would affect the installation, just fyi.
Again thanks to anyone who can be of any help, I'd really love to get this going

Hi again. :)
The single DVD-version should not cause any problems if you are doing a manual installation.
So you get a "Module not found" error?
First of all, make sure the disc is mounted. (Open a regular filebrowser and see if you can browse the DVD)
Second, also choose "Configure Wine".
Then in the config-window, select "Drives" and make sure that D: points to your DVD.
Sorry that it took me so long to answer that you already have posted three replies. ;)

Hey Dr. Phil,
Thanks again for coming back.
I did make sure the disc is mounted, and in the wine config the D: does point to my cdrom, but it is still giving me a module error.
Something else that might be relevant. I only have 1 disc drive, but when I go into /media/ there is /cdrom, and /cdrom0
They are both there regardless of whether or not I have a cd/dvd in the drive, and when I put the dvd in, the contents pop up in both /cdrom, and /cdrom0
I am wondering if these 2 mount points are somehow causing a problem, or if maybe it just isn't mounting properly because it is split in 2? I have to go to work, so I won't be home for 8 hours. But maybe this has something to do with it?
Thanks for all your help so far!

Hey.
Sorry to be such a bother with all this, I'm just really getting frustrated. Anyways, I managed to get my hands on my friends copy of WoW, which uses 4 cds, I figured I could use those with my own cd-keys that I purchased, and then use the normal method through POL. When I did this, I feel like the drive was detected, because in terminal it says:
cp: omitting directory `/media/cdrom0/DirectX'
Which to me looks like it is choosing not to copy directx stuff, but it just kind of sits there, and the installation doesn't go through.
So a couple questions I guess. In this case, the module must be getting recognized, so why not with the DVD, and, is there a wy I can get this cd installation to work?
Again, thanks for any help, I'm sorry that I'm such a noob

Hello there Dr. Phil,
Your messages have helped me solve some of my issues with this very same problem. Unfortunately, even after installing the two versions of wine, making sure that D: points to my cd rom, mounting the dvd, installing POL helper, I am still having trouble.
After POL says "Please mount the DVD, then valid", I press the 'Forward' button, and get an error message that begins with "Do not click on OK since you are not sure the game has been installed." I took a screen shot, which is viewable here:

What can I do to resolve this issue?

Hi! :)
Please open a terminal, write playonlinux and press enter.
After that, install the game and paste all the output from the terminal.
If possible, instead copy an already existing installation from another system (both Mac and Windows will do fine) to a new prefix. This way you'll also don't have to patch the game.
(On Windows the installation directory is usually C:\\Program Files\\World of Warcraft)
I have never installed WoW, neither on Windows or Linux.
I've just copied my friends directory instead.

How exactly does one go about copying a friend's directory? I'm a n00b to Linux and this is a novel concept for me. Can you please elaborate a bit, or else guide me to a tutorial? Thank you so SO much for all of your help, you're amazing, really!

Hi again!
First of all, install POLHelper. It is a plugin which adds some features to PlayOnLinux.
When that is done, launch PlayOnLinux and press on "Plugins"->"POL Helper". Press "Create POL prefix" and enter a new name (should not contain spaces!). I named my prefix to My_WoW. It will now load for a few seconds and a new prefix should be created.
Open a filebrowser and go to ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/My_WoW/drive_c/Program Files with My_WoW replaced with your prefixname. The prefixname is case-sensitive.
This is the place where you should paste an already installed directory, either from Mac, Linux or Windows. The directory is (on Windows) located at C:\\Program Files\\World of Warcraft as default. You would want to copy the whole "World of Warcraft"-folder, and not just its contents. (Your own path to WoW should then look something like ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/My_WoW/drive_c/Program Files/World of Warcraft)
I think I copied my friends WoW-folder to a 16 GiB USB flash drive, but using an external harddrive or the network should probably work good too. :)
The last step is to make a shortcut, open POL and press "Plugins"->"POL Helper" and pick "Create/Edit POL Launcher". Make a new launcher (I called mine World of Warcraft ;) ) and choose a wine-version (the newer the better, usually) the wineprefix you should choose is the folder called the same as the prefix you created earlier. Application directory is drive_c/Program Files/World of Warcraft and the executable is wow.exe.
I hope it'll work for you. :)
