I have Ubuntu 9.04x64, and I am using a 32 bit 1.1.22-Wine installation. In general, it works, albeit some strange behavior occurs and certain things are quite difficult to achieve (e.g. installation of Fallout 3).
Anyhow, with pleasure I discovered this project, as it seems to ease some pain (e.g. installation of Fallout 3), but when I try to install playonlinux, there is a problem:
sudo apt-get install playonlinux
[sudo] password for USER:

As I've said before, it wants to install wine, but wine is already installed! Once I just pressed "Yes" and it downgraded my wine to 1.0.1, but this isn't nice as I need my 1.1.22 for different programs.
Furthermore, it seems to me that PlayOnLinux and the "normal" wine-installation are conflicting each other, as I was able to install certain programs, but when I tried to start them via PlayOnLinux, there just was no reaction, not even a nice error message.
To cut a long story short: I really want to use PlayOnLinux, but I don't like that it is downgading my already installed wine. Is there any way to circumvent that?
Right about now, I have no PlayOnLinux installed, but I really would like to test it out. Edité par wolle212

No, I've installed wine manually via:
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture wine*1.1.22*i386.deb Edité par wolle212

Hi wolle212,
Why don't you use WineHQ's repository to have the latest version of Wine?
Do you really have to use a 32 bits package for Wine?

I followed a tutorial, and it said that almost all games are 32-bit, and therefore require a 32-bit package of Wine. If I am mistaken there, please let me know.
I am already using wine for a few games, and only wanted to use PlayOnLinux for certain games, which are a pain in the ass to install manually, e.g. Fallout 3.
Anyhow, is it possible to include a 32-bit repisitory of wine in a 64-bit Ubuntu? So that PlayOnLinux would know, that I already have a wine.

I don't know if it's possible (I use Arch Linux, I don't know very well Ubuntu) but you could try to add WineHQ's repo because their package of Wine, even if it's said that it's for 64 bits architecture, depends on packages such as ia32-libs so the package might provide the version of Wine which runs 32 bits Windows apps (and not the the version of Wine with patches to run 64 bits Windows apps).

OK, thanks, I tried it your way and it seems that the Wine from the WineHQ-rep works just as fine my manually installed version did. Now I have PlayOnLinux, but still no luck with Fallout 3, but that's a different story :D
