I'm running an Intel i7 9700k with 16 gigs of ram and an RTX 2070 Super video card on an AS Rock board, using Cinnamon 5.6.7.
Is there anything software or driver related that could be holding my hardware back? Currently I'm playing Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and ARK, and they don't run as crisply as they did on Windows. I'm using Proton experimental on ARK, while Mount and Blade runs with the basic Steam Play settings enabled. ARK's frame rate is about 20 fps lower than it was on Windows with the same settings, and while playing Bannerlord, the game freezes for a second every so often, usually when I'm in a battle https://omegle.onl/.
Another game that isn't running that well is Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered. It took multiple attempts with the compatibility settings to get it running. I finally settled on Proton Experimental. However, when I load it up, it says that I don't have the most up-to-date graphics drivers installed, and it runs at a much lower frame rate, even with the graphics settings turned down.
I guess what I'm asking is, am I running the best Linux for gaming? I went to NVIDIA's site and got the latest drivers, but the Spider-Man error is giving me pause.
And what about Proton and Steam? Is it just trial and error, looking for the best performance? Or is there a site or post that breaks down what versions of Proton work well with which games?
Thanks for reading my post!
