XQuartz? Do I need Wine?

Hello, I am okay technical savvy, but I have never had to run another program to do things on another system. I am trying to load/run Legacy 9.0 which is a family tree program. It is struggling to load. It is saying It is waiting for XQuartz to load and there is the circle like it is loading but nothing happens. I do not know what else I might need, but see mention of Wine? (I know it is another program/app and not saying I need a glass, although...)

I have a MacBook Air. I am running MacOS Big Sur version 11.4. Processor: 1.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, I downloaded the program Playonmac and tried to put the program in the manual install window. The error shows: the spinning wheel and says "waiting for XQuartz to be installed"

Sorry if I missed giving you some information. I just wanted to have the family tree program on my MacBook since I will be using it for research more than my PC.

Hi there,

I don't know at which point your Legacy 9.0 program needs xquartz. However, I faced the same issue ("waiting for XQuartz to be installed" message) when trying to open a terminal within playonmac (my version is 4.4.3).

I saw on internet several people suggesting to install xquartz ourselves.

Hence, I have :

1- downloaded this macos application directly from the official site : https://www.xquartz.org/

2- installed it (I am using MacOS Monterey 12.1 on M1 Pro machine).

I was then able to open a terminal within playonmac.

Cheers.
