Directx 8.0 or higher not installed

Nuems	Launching a pokemon fan game (exe.file) from PlayonMac gives the message "DirectX 8.0 or higher not installed"   Using version 4.3.3 of PlayOnMac.   Is there any components I need to install, or any display settings I need to configure?
