Clone tool in P.S. CS 6. Normal engangement is alt click on cloning area.

Message is P.S. default message cannot use the clone stamp until area selected

System is Mint 19 Tara cinnamon 64 bt,  the error occured in all earlier versions of Ubuntu 17, 18

Is this a keyboard failure
