Hi everyone. This is my first post here, and I am doing my best to make sure I do everything correctly.
- PlayOnMac 4.2.12
- Specs: Macbook Pro (Retina,13-inch, Late 2013), 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM, Intel Iris 1536 MB Graphics, MAc OS 10.13.5.
- Program: Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst (No version number I know of.)
I began using PlayonMac so I could run Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst on my Mac (Ephinea Server: https://ephinea.pioneer2.net/).
Everything starts and runs just fine, except that I will disconnect from the server about 50% of the time when loading into a boss battle. (In this game, up to 4 players step into a portal together that loads a new boss area, which usually begins with a cutscene before gameplay resumes.) This is the only situation in which I have encountered any issues. The game has never crashed, just D/Ced from the server (which ends the game, since it is always online.)
The situation is curious to me for the following reasons:
1. I actually load into the boss battle with all of the other users, but following the cutscene my character simply stands still. I still have access to the menu to quit the game, but if I don't do that the game will eventually give me the "disconnected from server message."
2. I have noticed that I only D/C when playing with certain people (I keep a running list). I have played for many hours straight with no issue, then joined a group with one of the people on the list and inevitably D/Ced from the first boss we faced. There do not seem to be any clear commonalities between them (ISP, location, etc.)
2a. I am pretty close to the server's location, and there doesn't seem to be a difference if I am the game's host or not.
3. This has only happened on the bosses with opening cutscenes. I have never disconnected from a boss that does not immediately enter a cutscene.
My first thought, of course, was it was an internet/ISP issue, but my internet is very good, and I have never had problems with any other game, computer or console (I am using a wireless connection, by the way.) I have power cycled/reset my modem and router already.
Another suggestion I have received from the PSO:BB community is that I may be disconnecting do due lack of activity, because the game uses so little bandwidth, and that running something else in the background may help. While I can still experiment more with this, I also do not believe it to be the case, as I regularly have other programs using bandwidth running simultaneously.
I do not have any sort of error code to show, as PlayOnMac is not crashing; I am simply disconnecting in-game, though I feel like it must have something to do with the emulation, etc., as I have not had similar problems with Mac native games or anything on my consoles.
I am happy to provide any more information I can if it is needed. Any advice or knowledge is welcome. Thank you all very much for your time and for helping this tool exist.
