I was successful in getting a free to download/install Sony imaging application produced for my camera to install using playonlinux running on Ubuntu 17.10.  The installation completed, the application launched, and I was able to browse/edit images and save them.

After I quit the application, I cannot navigate to restart it, it does not show up in my list of Ubuntu installed applications.  The only way I can re-start it is to re-install it.

What am I doing wrong?

At the end of the manual installation, POL show you the list of .EXE files found in order to make shortcuts. I think this is the point you missed.
