Using Xubuntu 16.04 LTS

Latest version of POL as of 12/31/16

16 gig ram

nVidia GTX760

Motherboard audio

Ok, I've been searching for days and none of the solutions that are out there work.  The sound quality in Skyrim waffles back and forth between perfectly fine to "That's not an orc, that's an alien overlord talking to me".

Everything I've read says that you should change the audio driver to alsa, but it's already there (and I can't seem to find anything to change in the registry, as was suggested a lot). I've read that POL/WINE are using Pulse now (and IIRC, Pulse is the native server for Xubuntu these days). So, needless to say I'm very confused.

IRL I'm an audio engineer, so the only way I can describe the sound is that it sounds like the bit rate is going from 24 down to like 2 and back again at random intervals.

Problem is made worse if I dare alt+tab out for whatever reason.

If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate them! I just want to play me some skyrim =)

Thanks!
