Hi,
i'm trying to install a trial version of 64bits software using POL 4.2.10 under ubuntu 16.04 / 64bits.
While i was able to run some software in 32 bits mode, i'm experiencing some issue with 64 bits installation of windows 7 environment.
In fact, if i select the component "msxml6" and tell tha wine version is 1.9.19 using a windows 64 bits env, i get the following error message:
"AMD64 is set, but msxml6 is needed".
Why ? does POL 4.2.10 have a MSXML6 64bits version as component ? or only a 32 bits ? how to solve this issue ?
thx.

There is a chance no 64-bit version of msxml6 is avaiable...
Is there a specific reason you are using a 64-bit virtual drive? I play almost all games in a 32-bit virtual drive and it works nicely.

There is a very good reason for that.
In fact i would like to test a 64bits application and to use more than 3,5 Gb RAM from my laptop...because app could use about 8 to 10GB ram.
i do not want to run a VM using VIrtualbox as instead to have 8 to 10GB ram free for the 64 app, i will have 2 to 3 GB less due to VM +OS host.

I'm curious what app you are using? Must be a productivity or graphics app. I wonder why it requires msxml6?

I just want to test Photoshop CC 64bits under wine as trial version, and some other 64bits apps like MS Office suites.

Ah ok...
Did you check AppDB before trying it out?
Photoshop CC 2015
Microsoft Office
Those are all tests, but sometimes provides good information about what version of Wine they used and which dependencies. Looks like there are some "Gold" ratings for Photoshop, but Office 2016 is rated "Garbage"
I have only used the 64-bit Wine/wineprefix for a few games that required it. I've had some success but in the past it was buggy.
How far did you get with installing Photoshop? Did it install?
You can always post a debug if it crashes upon launch.
Also, you can try searching for msxml6 64-bit online. If Microsoft provides one, you can install it in the wineprefix yourself to test it.

I know about gold rating for Photoshop CC 2015 but it is a 32bits version. So from my point of view such RAM consuming app should be used only in 64bits mode.
I'm from Windows world and i know how much additional RAM for such app is very useful. I migrated to linux last year and i wanted to test PS under wine/POL.
In fact i went nowhere... :D i only created the virtual disk, and POL installs windows librairies at the beginning of the process, so i even did not get to phase where you have to setup the install exe.
therefore it is only in pure POL + wine64 v1.9.19 and msxml6... it does not matter what is the 64 bits app, as i was not able to reach installation program setup phase in POL.

Absolutely agreed. If you are editing a LOT of photos at once, lots of RAM is necessary. 64-bit is totally a good idea. I don't have a copy of Photoshop to test in PlayOnLinux, but 64-bit Wine should work.
Where exactly did it stop during your setup?
If you didn't get to a browse screen, then something must have stopped the manual setup.
I found a trial for Photoshop Creative Cloud. I will have to download it and give it a try in 64-bit virtual drive in PlayOnLinux.
I'll report my findings here.

I was able to install the Creative Cloud app without msxml6 but it won't launch. The Adobe executables crash with errors.
You are right, there is no 64-bit version of msxml6, I get an error when trying to install it.
For now, you may have to submit a bug and stick with 32-bit version.... sadly. There are reports on Appdb about features crashing even in 32-bit version.

Thanks for confirming my conclusions. At least i'm not nut :D
that's a pity because GIMP does not have the smart object feature that is very useful in photoshop.

Smart object feature? What is that?
Yeah, there are a few features in GIMP that I would love to see:
- Actions
- CMYK
- Liquify Tool

Offically supported CMYK is a long long ways away, but GIMP already has a liquify type feature minus the masking and the zooming. I find it works rather well. Open a picture then look under Filters---->Distorts--->IWarp
