iTunes install error (bug?)

I've been trying to get iTunes to work and haven't had much luck with the two scripts available, so I thought I'd use the iTunes 12 install script but experiment with some different versions of iTunes. Anyway, I ran into a problem that surprised me - after uninstalling iTunes 12 and deleting the virtual drive, I tried installing iTunes 11 in a new drive but got this error message: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

Meaning that this file is persisting between installs and virtual drives (it doesn't come from the install script). This seems like... I'm not sure if I should call it a bug, since WINE and Playonlinux are not sandboxes, but it does seem like something which shouldn't happen.
