Heya, I've been having a bit of an issue. I want to play Skyrim on KXStudio (Kubuntu, I don't know the version but it's a little outdated) but am having an issue. Every time I try to use PlayOnLinux to install it, it just gets stuck on installing vcrun2008, despite having it manually installed outside of playonlinux. 3 guides and a few hours later, and I'm about to give up. Is there something I'm missing?

Thank you!

Lets start with a few questions:

  • What version of PlayOnLinux are you using?
  • KXStudio 64-bit?
  • What video card/chip are you using?
  • Did you install the proprietary drivers for your video card/chip?
  • Can you play any other games in PlayOnLinux/Wine?
  • What version of Wine are you using?

I definitely recommend using Wine 1.7.55-staging because it works great with Steam and supports Pulseaudio.
There are some newer 1.8 versions as well, but I haven't tried them yet.

Any bugs like PlayOnLinux getting stuck during an installation, Wine Configuration or Package install is very unsual for me.  You might want to try installing PlayOnLinux again.  Make sure to download it from the download page on the website here.
Also make sure to install Wine as well, we won't be using it, but helps to have it installed first.
