Yes, at the end of the install, it pops up with a quick loading bar then dissapears.
Origin is installed, so you can still go an create a shortcut from PlayOnLinux Configure

But upon launching again, it will throw those igoproxy.exe errors

It also won't work for me in a fresh install, is there any way to see the modifications made to a virtual drive so I can recreate what I did on the drive Origin works on?

EDIT: We all love EA

Hmm, not really
You can check Wine Configuration, but it won't show you which packages were installed.
Did you use the PlayOnLinux installer or did you install it manually?

There used to be a patched version of Wine just for Origin, but I haven't used it in a long long time

I tried using the POL Installer, but it didn't work, so I installed Origin manually. I have no idea what I changed, and I'm currently trying to somehow reproduce my steps.

EDIT: Ninja'd

  1. Launch PlayOnLinux
  2. Tools
  3. Wine Manager
  4. Download wine 1.7.55-staging
  5. Close Download Manager
  6. Download Origin Client:  http://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe
  7. Save to Desktop
  8. PlayOnLinux Click Install
  9. Click "Install a non-listed program"
  10. Next
  11. New virtual drive
  12. Name it Origin (Or the name of the game you are going to install)
  13. Wine 1.7.55-staging
  14. Check:  corefonts, d3dx9, tahoma, vcrun2008, vcrun2010, vcrun2012
  15. 32-bit virtual drive
  16. Wine Configure:  Windows 7
  17. Display:  Check Mouse capture, check virtual desktop, size:  1024x768
  18. Click Browse
  19. Select OriginSetup.exe
  20. Uncheck all the options
  21. Install Origin
  22. Installer might crash
  23. Back to PlayOnLinux
  24. Click Configure
  25. Wine Tab:  Kill Processes
  26. General Tab:  New Shortcut
  27. Select Origin.exe
  28. Rename igoproxy64.exe to igoproxy65.exe
  29. Launch Origin
  30. Login

Those are the steps I just took.  I don't know if renaming igoproxy64.exe did the trick or not, but I"m downloading Mirror's Edge right now

I'm actually impressed...
I was able to download all of Dragon Age Origins without any problems.  First time!  This is news for me.  I gave up on Origin a long time ago, now I may have to revisit it.  I have a few games to try out:

  • Dragon Age Origin
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Dead Space 3
  • Medal of Honor
  • Kingdoms of Amalur (Tried previously and DRM breaks it)

I couldn't launch Dragon Age because I have an old GeForce 7600 GT in this box, but I'll try on a different computer and see if it launches properly

I have confirmed on another computer that the igoproxy64.exe is the problem.  Renaming it will fix Origin so you can launch it properly.
Unfortunately the Origin folder is permissions protected... not sure why, but I had to go into folder properties and open up the permissions to Write-and-Delete

Then I could rename the igoproxy64.exe

After tha I could launch Origin and login

I had already managed to launch Origin without any issue (apart from that igoproxy64.exe error), and renaming it didn't appear to change anything, and I still got the igoproxy64 error.

That is so strange!  How did you get it to run?

yes it launches, I almost get to the menu but then get a message "EA servers appear to be down, please try again later"
So apparently there is something keeping it from communicating with EA servers...

Probably igoproxy64.exe

That's the error I get everytime, it's quite weird. Maybe you need a Internet connection to play the demo?

booman Samedi 21 Novembre 2015 à 21:23

I have an internet connection, but I get the error too.  There is a chance some DRM needs to connect to a server and can't with Wine.

I will try it offline as well.  If the demo doesn't play offline, then that is just stupid

I do have an internet connection, although it also couldn't connect to the EA network in ME2 either, where I was using steam. It was possible to connect to an account though, but you just had to connect manually again every time you started the game.

Have you made any progress? I'm pretty sure it's Origins fault, it should usually run without a problem.
