Why is Wine staging 1.7.51 so huge?

When I tried to install Wine staging 1.7.51 through PlayOnLinux it attempted to download 92.1 MB. That's almost 3 times the usual size of Wine, and regular Wine 1.7.51 is around 33 MB. Is that expected?

The difference of size comes from the fact that we did not remove wine staging 1.7.51 .so symbols because it was causing a bug (https://www.playonlinux.com/en/issue-5149.html)

We are trying to evaluate if we can safely continue to strip those symbols, and what could be the consequences.

So, did you figure out if .so symbols can be stripped?

I tried downloading Wine 1.7.53-staging, and it's still 92.9 MB. So you didn't start stripping those .so objects yet?

UPDATE:

I downlodead it and stripped it manually. Everything seems to work so far. I run from $HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.53-staging

find . -name '*.so' | xargs strip

Does it change the size of your directory?

Yes, it reduced it almost 50%.
