How to play .mpg files in a game?

Hi,

I want to play a visual novel that has an opening video in the format MPEG-2 PS. I copied the settings used here to get it to play (adding quartz, devenum, and amstream), but there's a slight buzzing that is audible in the background, that is just enough to bother me.

Are there alternative settings that can be used to play .mpg files? I tried using ffdshow, but in the video decoder settings I can't enable mpeg files. I edited the registry using wine registry editor to enable them, but still no luck.

Info:

Distribution - Ubuntu 14.04. (64-bit)

CPU - Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual  CPU  E2160  @ 1.80GHz

2GB RAM

Graphics card - Nvidia GeForce GT 610

Graphics driver - Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver, ver. 352.21

Desktop - Gnome, 3.8.4

Wine version - 1.7.47 (32-bit)

Thank you.

Updates:

- Got it working with ffdshow + quartz. It still buzzes. I suspect the culprit is quartz now.

- Tried lots of different quartz versions, but the issue persists.

I found a resolution, but it's not the one I would have expected. Actually, the video itself is like that. Oh man, I spent so long working on this before I realized that...
