Hello I have a problem with steam. After installing steam by following this tutorial I had no problems with it for the first week. I even installed other games and everything worked fine. But one day (I think after I installed xna for a game, or maybe updated to a different wine version) I got a window that said "The program steamwebhelper.exe has encountered a serious problem..." I tried reinstalling playonlinux and wine, nothing helped. At first I used wine 1.6.2 and POL 4.2.2. I tried updating to wine 1.7.47 and POL 4.2.8 that didn't fix it either.

I'm having the same problem.  Every time I open the windows version of Steam in POL I have issues with the browser and steamwebhelper.exe failing and closing down.  I've included the error message bellow.

I get these errors with any version of Wine as well.
I'm guessing it will be a "waiting game" with Wine developers.  They eventually fix everything Steam related.

So far it doesn't affect my game-play, but it IS annoying

They still haven't fixed it and I can't go to the store to download any games. Any fixes guys ?

Guys I have found a solution to my problem :

Select your prefix and go to configure>wine>configure wine> and change compability mode to windows xp. That fixed it for me.

Ok, I'll give it a try...
I really prefer using Windows 7 for my Virtual Drives, but that steamwebhelper error is getting really annoying!
I still get it even with Wine 1.7.50-staging

Switching to a Windows XP/7 (vice versa) drive doesn't help in my case, neither does updating Steam to the latest Beta build.

Can you try Wine 1.7.53-steam_crossoverhack?

It works!  The wine-1.7.53-steam_crossoverhack loads the store slowly, but it DOES work!

Is there any chance the Crossoverhack patch will be rolled into the Wine 1.8 stable?
The only other work-around is setting Windows as Windows XP in Wine Configuration.

Could You please advise me on any extra tips for a better 64 bit prefix, I have one but it seems flawed.  I know the basics.  But for ex. dotnet45 is screwed up as well as many others.
