Try waiting longer than 15 minutes, the very first launch takes a long time.
Once its done with the first time launch, it loads much quicker the next time.

Do you have the video drivers installed?

Yeah; the first time you launch it, it takes forever (I waited 25 minutes the other day the first time I launched it).

The open-source drivers for that card may actually work better than the legacy drivers. You should look into upgrading your graphics stack and kernel for better open-source performance with that card:

Oibaf PPA (do this first):

https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers

Newer Linux kernel (do after the installing Oibaf PPA, then reboot):

That is about as up to date as you can get with the open graphics drivers, which luckily for AMD users, is actually not too shabby. Hopefully that will help. If that doesn't work, you could try the legacy AMD driver, but it probably won't work because it won't be compatible with newer X servers (AMD lags SUPER hard in getting newer X server support).

i was told my card is not supported with the open source drivetrs due to amd dropping support for the 3650hd gpu card i was also told that any card below the 5000 series is also not supported witht he open source drivers

i can get to the part where it tells me that it reset my graphic settings and it tells me to press ok so i can adjust my screen bightness but if i try to press ok with my mouse it blanks out the screen forcing me to restart my laptop

From what I can see, your card is fully supported by the open-source radeon driver. AMD discontinued support, but the community driver still supports it. Make sure that you have multiarch-support installed, as well as the 32-bit libs for it (mutiarch-support should do that for you). If that doesn't work, you can install the newest Ubuntu kernel and Oibaf PPA and see if that helps (that will make sure that you are getting the newest most updated open source drivers and graphics support).

The problem you will probably keep running into is that you graphics card has half of the amount of minimum memory required to run it (512mb is the min., and yours has 256mb).

im guessing its not worth the trouble for me to ry to run star trek online if my video card doesnt have the required ram

Ronin DUSETTE Lundi 22 Juin 2015 à 19:49

Yeah, although it may borrow memory from your RAM itself (not the video card's RAM, but your system's RAM as shared memory). I don't know if that card does that. They only thing that I could say would be to install the Oibaf PPA and the newer kernel (4.0.5), and if that doesn't work, unfortunately your card probably just does not meet the full requirements. I am seeing mixed answers about the amount of video RAM needed, so it is still worth it to try the PPA and newer kernel. It's easy to do, too:

oibaf ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers

kernel:

im confused how do i install the oibaf ppa i read the links u sent me and im still confused

It says how to install the PPA right in the instructions:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

Then:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

When that is done, simply follow the instructions in the link for the kernel install, then reboot.

ok update new drivers didnt help at all so im reverting back to legacy drivers guess ill have to play this on windows

Ronin DUSETTE Mardi 23 Juin 2015 à 17:25

Why are you reverting back? You are actually probably better off with the newer open source drivers, considering they are still being updated, as opposed to the legacy drivers. Are you seeing any issues just running those drivers and the newer kernel?

That does not make sense; your BIOS would not be affected by a driver problem. It sounds like more than just the drivers were installed or something else was messed with.
