Hello.

I'm shohta,shohta nedu.

I use Ubuntu 14.04.1 Japanese version and PlayOnLinux 4.2.4 version.

Well, this is the first post and I'm Japanese,so sorry for non-well manner and bad English.

Several weeks ago,I installed PlayOnLinux (Sorry,I don't know the version) by terminal without adding repository and worked fine.

Then installed some Windows software,MS Office and so on, by PlayOnLinux.

Today,September 5th in Japan,I added PlayOnLinux's repository and upgraded version 4.2.4.

(And I did cleaning by Ubuntu Tweak. After that,Wine was missing,so I installed Wine 1.6.2 version.)

After this,I opened PlayOnLinux and clicked インストール (English:install).

Then showed new window,PlayOnLinuxのインストールの間 (PlayOnLinux's install menu), and started loading.

I waited an hour but loading never finished, circle two arrows ever rotated.

So,closed this window and PlayOnLinux. Then opened PlayOnLinux again and I did same thing.

In this time, circle arrows didn't rotate but loading never finished.Of course,I waited an hour again.

So,then,I reinstalled PlayOnLinux same version and Wine same version by Synaptic and rebooted PC.

But there was no changes, same things occured.

Windows software which was installed by old version PlayOnLinux works fine also now,but can't install new software.

I want to fix this and install new software.

What should I do? Any ideas?

Thank you.

It might be a good idea to uninstall PlayOnLinux with the Terminal and use the -purge command.

sudo apt-get remove -purge playonlinux

Then install Wine from software manager or Terminal

Then install PlayOnLinux 4.2.5 from the website here

Its always good to have Wine installed first.  Then install other versions of wine later after PlayOnLinux is installed.

The name of your program is in Japanese, do you know the english name for it?

Also, its a good idea to look up your program on WineHQ's to see if it runs at all.  Chances are, if you find it in the PlayOnLinux repositories, then it does run in Linux.

Uninstalling/reinstalling PlayOnLinux removes, then re-adds the same files, so it should never fix an issue.

(Including with -purge, given the package has no configuration files).

I was thinking that something was corrupted or messed up in the installation files.  Or would clean out an older version of POL

To upgrade, just install the newer version, package manager will to its job.

If some install files are corrupted you got bigger problems on your hands, because those are only modifiable by root. So either you screwed as root, or your hardware corrupts files.

Good to know, so just download the new version and let software installer go ahead and install the update?

I guess that is the "windows" part of me trying to do fresh installs by uninstalling the old version.

It keeps track of what file pertains to what package, so it will just cleanly remove the previous version before installing the new one...
