Steam won't start
HI guys! I tried to run Counter Strike - Global Offencive on my system with no luck.
To do so I have tried three different ways:
1. Installing using CS:GO script provided by PoL
2. Installing Steam using PoL script
3. Manual installation

Also have also tried all sorts of different Wine versions.

The result: Every single time same thing happens. After successful installation and update (120mb) when I try to run it, progress bar (picture 1) flashes for half a second and then disappears. Nothing else happens. By the way Steam.exe process keeps running and uses about 52 mb of ram untill I manually kill it.

If i go to .. /.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/csgo/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/ and run Steam.exe with Wine it starts as it should, logs me in and I can start CS:GO no problem (a biit laggy).

I dont think ALSA lib is the problem, worst case senario I would have sound while playing becouse of it. (I guess)

My system info:

Kernel/distro: 3.15.8-1-MANJARO x86_64 GNU/Linux
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
Drivers: video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-bumblebee  version: 2013.04.29

PoL version: PlayOnLinux 4.2.4

Wine version: wine-1.7.24

 

Please help me out. I know I'm not alone struggling on same issue.

This is the first that I have seen of this that I can think of right now. 

If you are running bumblebee, I believe there is a command that has to prefix playonlinux.

Can you start playonlinux from the command line, and try to install steam again, and after it fails, copy/paste ALL of the terminal output, from when you typed 'playonlinux', to the end. I would like to see what the install says from start to finish. 

The error is actually related to pulseaudio more than ALSA. Plus, I do not know how manjaro is set up. 

EDIT: I just realized, that any version of Wine under 1.7.8 will not work with Steam. Try switching to a higher version after you install steam. I will bet that is the issue.

Yeah. I am almost positive that is it. When steam updated their overlay renderer a while back, it broke all of those. Find the next version of wine above 1.7.8 with the CSMT patch, and try it with that. You can install these wine versions from tools -> manage wine versions, and you can change then in the configureation window.

Manjaro linux distro is basically same thing as Arch linux just made to be more user friendly. It has graphical installation, hardware detection and installation utilities, and also package manager, kernel chooser etc.

As I mentioned before : Also I have also tried all sorts of different Wine versions.

Versions I have tried: 1.7.24-CS-0.9.1, 1.7.24, 1.7.22 (come with PoL install script), 1.7.10, 1.7.4-CSMT

Also tried running like this: optirun playonlinux from console and then install/run Steam

none of these actions solves my problem ..

Running Wine with optirun greatly increases video quality, but fps sits around ~30fps witch is unplayable
Runing CS:GO on Windows 8.1 is about ~120fps but I really want to ditch (delete) Windows partition for good. CS:GO is the only thing whitch makes me keep it.

I have tried so many different wine versions. But as silly as it may sound the solution was to use system's wine. Installed patched CSMT wine version as system and now I can play game with no glitching or lagging.

Well, which version of Wine did you use the CSMT pactch on? We am sure we can appy that patch to a wine-build and rebuild that version of Wine for you. We just need to know which one.
