I have Silkroad online already installed on my windows partition... how do I add it to the playonlinux list of games without installing again?

I think the easier way for you is to reinstall it if you want to avoid some problems

Is that the best answer you can give? I also have World of Warcraft installed on my computer already. It was done under Wine, and I seriously don't want to download all four CDs again.
I've already had to twice because I tweaked my Linux just a tad too deep and didn't know how to troubleshoot out of it, so I had to reformat and reinstall everything. (And sadly, only a couple hours ago I deleted the images. )
There must be a simple way to add stuff we've already installed. If there isn't a way now, I think there should be such an option, even if it comes with a warning label.

It causes problems 90% of time due to the ntfs or vfat partition

What if I'm playing my game from a JFS or any other Linux partition?

Hi clovis6780,
I think Tinou misunderstood what you said. He maybe read too fast and believe you installed WoW on Windows. So we don't care about the partition type as long as it's a Linux one.
But, even if the partition type is solved, another remain: there is currently no way to add a game already installed.
So I think it would be a good idea to add that kind of feature in a future version of POL. You should propose it in the dedicated section.
Bye

I love the use of konsole. But when i tried this, I got.
wineshelllink: command not found
so i thought it was missing tried to install
sudo apt-get install wineshellink
and got
E: Couldn't find package wineshelllink
I was wondering if its in another wine package, that I am missing. I know the dates are old here, but command is the best and just wanted to know if there is a new work around?
my pc info can be found here!

Also like to add I have wine1.2 and the latest playonlinux installed. I can run the game under wine already, but get some errors from time to time and was seeing if this is a better option.(easier option) Edité par deadlyterror

still no progress on this issue after 3 years? It's a basic feature and you find many threads about this on google.
I think this wont be difficult to implement and would really improve the usability of POL. Edité par hasufell

Another 3 years and, because this is the first google search result, I assume this is still the case.
I only installed it because my logic (and I speak as a professional developer) was this: If they didn't support automatic detection of existing apps, or at least the ability to add paths, then people won't adopt it.
Yup. I'm not going to "apt-get autoremove" just yet, but I'll be sticking with straight-up wine for the foreseeable future.

I did not exactly understand what you meant, but if we do not want to support it, is is mainly because the result cannot be guaranteed and might differ from one app to another. Even worse, some programs depends on Windows registry keys.
It is not a good way to handle Windows program installation issue and we just don't want to receive tons of bugs about this.
If people want to use already installed windows program via wine, they might be able to use vanilla wine.
So no, I'm afraid that this feature won't be supported ever. (However, I did write a alpha-plugin years ago that managed to import programs and registry from a Windows drive, but I did not release it for the reason I just mentioned)

I found a way for my Blizzard games to do this: I manually installed the Battle.net client with POL and then put a symbolic link to the game directory at the appropriate place. It just took some time to figure out how to create the desktop link because the automatic POL way did not work.
I don't remember the exact steps but I'm new at Linux and figured it out eventually so it can't be to complicated.
My games are installed on a SSD and my /home is not, so I think that's a legitimate reason for wanting an install outside /home. I will now look for a way to move the whole POL/wine stuff to the SSD without putting /home there. Putting /home on the SSD would be bad cause of wear issues and SSD space is comparably expensive. Would be nice if POL gave an option during install ...
