Hello everyone,
I was wondering how hard would it be to create an installer for fallout.
I honestly have barely any experience in programming and I never really patched wine in any way except by following step-by-step guides BUT I went on the winehq page for fallout steam version (I'm talking about the first one) and I noticed it's rated platinum, so it should "just work".
Can I make an installer for it without any previous experience?
Could it be a way to start helping the project maybe?
I really want a steam installer for fallout because at the moment only a gog version is available for it.

Hi arkindal,

Since game rating in the AppDB is platinum, you shouldn't need any patched Wine (even if you did, we would have taken care of compiled a patched Wine).

So, all what's needed is some installer script; PlayOnLinux installers are written as Bash shell scripts, so having some programming notions of statements, variables, conditions can help, and so does some knowledge of Bash. Things specific to PlayOnLinux are documented in scriptwriter's documentation, well at least most of them (documentation could be updated).

You can also have a look at existing install scripts, specially other recent Steam install scripts, if you prefer learning by example.

I'm no specialist of Steam support in PlayOnLinux, but I should be able to help you with just about anything else, if you have questions.

Regards,
Pierre.

Thank you very much Pierre, I have some very basic knowledge of bash, this seems like a very good way to learn something more.
I'll get into it in the weekend.
