So I booted up steam on POL and I get this little beauty of a message:

Support for Steam on your version of Windows will end on August 31st 2012.
In order to continue running Steam on this computer, you must upgrade your version of Windows to Windows XPservice Pack 2 or higher.

What does this mean for us wine users? Will there be some sort of update soon or will we just be left without the ability to use steam in Wine?

That simply means that they will not troubleshoot issues with the system.

When Wine is set to WinXP, its not set up with service packs, so it doesnt see windows xp SP3, it just sees winxp with no service packs.

This is not an issue that is causing errors with others systems, and this is actually the first time I have seen this issue.

You can probably change the Wine Windows Version to Vista or 7 and see if that helps, though, I cannot say it will work correctly.

I would say ignore the message unless it is causing issues. Other than that, you should be fine.
