I counted all of my operating systems at home:
Linux Mint
Linux ChrUbuntu
LInux Fedora 18
Windows XP
Windows Vista Ultimate
Windows 7
Windows 8

So I'm running quite a lab at home

By the way, when you say "windows desktop" do you mean a "virtual desktop" setup in Wine configuration?
I found "virtual desktop" to be very successful with messing with screen resolution. Some games just won't work without it. So I'll set my "virtual desktop" to 1024x768 and then change the resolution in-game and the "virtual desktop" will adjust properly.

Yup that's what I mean. Got it working in my native 1920x1080 now.

Add DYAD to the list of games that work under POL.  This by far was the easiest install.  No issues, no extras just put it on wine 1.5.3 and *boom* it worked.

As for what I run:
-Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
-Mint 13 w/ Cinnamon for a backup
-Windows 7 64 Ult that's collecting dust
-WinXP 32 in a Virtualbox

EDIT: Add Retro City Rampage to the list of things I do with POL

I kick myself now, I had a chance to get the Arma pack on GoG, but I definitely want Quantum Conundrum...and got it on sale on Steam (but it doesn't work natively in Linux).

Thanks Growing Larger/Nero Symbol, but is there something wrong with the audio in that Arma 2 vid or were you in some kind of stealth mode?

Oh and I got Waking Mars to work with POL, but the problems I have are fullscreen mode flickers, and the audio is a garbled/tinny mess.

Yeah, I heard it was part of the Humble Bundle...and I see it is now a part of the software center on Ubuntu.

Problem is, I bought it on GoG, so I guess I'm stuck with a .exe version, maybe if I send a nice email to the folks at Tiger Style...

yeah its quite a new game.. unreal engine 3 always works good if the dx9 support is still there.

Ok, so add Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers to the list. Weird game.

EDIT: I took Waking Mars off of POL, but I spoke to someone over at Tiger Style games and he allowed me to have the Linux version instead.

Pretty cool group over there, I figured I'd spread the good press about the company.

Yup. Pretty much everything I have ran with the Unreal3 engine works great with d3dx9. They dont make a LInux version of that, do they?

actualy there was some talk that later UE3 builds (3.5 or something with full sourcecode) do have linux support. but the first ones do not and UDK doesnt also.

there are couple of UE3 ports on linux also, like Dungeon Defenders and Killing Floor. but those are ported by icculus, not the official UE3 port.

UE4 however seems to get linux support from the start.

GRR!
I would love it if UDK could port to Linux... sooner or later they will realize the demand

I have a feeling now that Project Shield is out, Steam is selling Linux games, and all of the other wonderful marketing advances that the OSS community has been getting, that within the next year or 2, linux will 100% have a viable share of the PC gaming market. As long as devs get their heads out of .NET so much, anyway. lol

I know I'll be a happy camper. Tried to run a game called Unmechanical, and it uses all those things y'all are talking about. I can get it to run, but for some reason the mouse isn't tracking well with it and it crashes.

WineHQ
Looks like you will need these components:
d3dx9
xact_jun2010
dotnet40

Also says let the game install Direct X but do not let it install Dot Net 4.0
Probably because you installed it previously with PlayOnLinux.

Also says disable DepthOfField=False in the UDKEngine.ini
located at:
\\Unmechanical\\Engine\\Config\\BaseEngine.ini
or
\\My Documents\\My Games\\Unmechanical\\UDKGame\\Config\\UDKEngine.ini

Thanks, booman, I need to check out WineHQ more.

What I had to do:
-what you recommended above, plus
-install gdiplus
-install the d3dx11
-install the patch for the game, patch_gogpackunmechanical_1.0.3.19
-Configure Wine to disable "Allow the window manager to control the windows" under the Graphics tab

Apparently UDK does not like to be tamed by the guest OS. I also learned how to pull up the debug tools prompt with the Tab key. Useful way to kill the program is to use "exit"

Looks like a cute little game, I look forward to playing it.

Cool, glad you got it working.
Feel free to make a new post about your success story and how you did it!
