Well, i did some test and i find out the next...

On a virtualbox without 3d hardware acceleration it shows that error. With 3d acceleration it works.. slowly but works. On my notebook that havent hardware acceleration it shows that error also.

My conclusion that error means that opengl is not working. No idea why shows that on wine.

I hope my info gonna be helpfull.

The pngdecode error is not from OpenGL. Can you post the output from starting playonlinux from the terminal? OpenGL will NOT work without hardware acceleration, so if its not working, you dont have the openGL libraries installed for your system.

Maybe... But my optirun works fine and when i do:

$ optirun wine Evoland.exe -opengl

i just get:

fixme:lsa:LsaGetLogonSessionData 0x32ebf8 0x32ec08 stub
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32e69c,0x00000000), stub!

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32cb48,0x00000000), stub!

(nothing special)

and the black screen with error #3694

Ok guys, so i installed an OpenGL test app (fogcity)

optirun wine fogcity.exe

And it works more than fine.

So i'm quite sure it's a bug in the game BUT that it gets triggered by wine and other weird windows configs (lack of opengl and/or specific drivers) ;)

Sigh. This is like the 5th time I have seen this today. Im going to have to make a sticky apparently. Its getting VERY tiresome repeating the same thing over and over because no one reads the posts that say PLEASE READ or read the manual.

$ optirun wine Evoland.exe -opengl

This is PlayOnLinux, NOT WINE. You do NOT run POL like this, as you are bypassing PlayOnLinux altogether.

running it from optirun or wine is 100% irrelevant in these forums. It has 0 (zero) to do with running an application through PlayOnLinux.

Have you read any of the documentation?

If you arent running PlayOnLinux, then whatever you are doing is useless in this forum and trying to help you.

Run PlayOnLinux, NOT WINE, and then I can help. If you are trying to run it like that, this is the wrong forum.

I'm on debian and i have the same issue.

Citer

Nope, because you arent even running the software that this site is named after. :)

I can really only help you troubleshoot POL. If you arent running it, your problem is not the same.

Like I just stated, it doesnt matter. You arent running POL, and POL has scripts that take care of things like DirectX stuff. Plus, OpenGL driver issues are because your actual linux system has none of the OpenGL libraries for your card. Those have to be installed outside of POL and WINE, and directly in your linux system.

My fingers hurt from typing out the POL documentation by hand. :)

Just to re-iterate:

Your openGL drivers have nothing to do with Windows, nor wine, NOR playonlinux. Those are installed into your linux OS. If they are not installed, you will not have direct rendering.

I know i have the latest nvidia driver (310.44) and it works very well.

I'm trying to install from POL and will give feedback.
Ronin DUSETTE Samedi 13 Avril 2013 à 4:10

For sure.

I know that when you install the nvidia drivers from their site, it asks if you want to install the 32-bit OpenGL libraries (if you are on 64 bit), and I have accidentally hit NO before. hahaha. Its always something to check.

If you start POL from the terminal, it will say in the output right as its starting, that its checking for direct rendering, and it will tell you if its installed or not. :)

Note that the game requires gdiplus for the game installer (why no gdiplus_xp from POL tools? gdiplus is 300mb, gdiplus_xp is quick to install) and AdobeAIR.

I've installed both, i ran the installer fine, then the game (just ran playonlinux through optirun as the POL var PRE_WINE was not used when i was using it to use "optirun".)

I got:

[04/12/13 23:39:56] - Running wine-1.5.28 Evoland.exe
fixme:lsa:LsaGetLogonSessionData 0x33ebb8 0x33ebc8 stub
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33e644,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33d7bc,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33cac4,0x00000000), stub!

and it opened the same error than the first poster (in the black window of the game):

(null):Error:Error#3694
(null):Error:Error#3694

Note that if i don't run playonlinux through optirun, the debug log contains things about OpenGL being missing etc.. So this output, as it does not have these errors, shows the game runs with opengl.

I tried 64bit/32bit wine and 64bit/32bit virtualgl (and i have 64bit+32bit nvidia driver libs) and always get the (null):Error:Error#3694.

Like i said earlier, for me it's a bug in the game!

It may be something needs a patch in a POL build of wine to get around it? Hmmm. Know any C++?

Im not sure why gdiplus_xp is not there. You would have to ask one of the other devs. Im sure there is a reason for it, but I couldnt tell you what it was. lol.

This is exactly what got me wanting to learn programming. So that I could do things like this. Still learnin. :)

No i don't know :(
I have no idea if a patch could help, this goes beyond my knowledge.
But i imagine it's currently possible to run the game by launching it in a very specific way, i just don't know which!

Since some users also encountered this issue on Windows, i hope the Evoland devs will fix the bug and we won't have to get crazy to find a workaround :)

Hmmmm. I hope they patch that up. Reminds me of when CoD: MW came out, and it had hella glitches in it, and it took activision a year to patch all of them. They dropped the ball with Prototype for PC, as well. It was plagued by a random crash, that just happened. No matter what, different times, different hardware.... They actually never ever fixed it or released a patch that effectively took care of it at all.

How long has this glitch been coming up with this game (whether on windows or wine)?

I don't know when searching for this error someone had it with the Steam version and another one with the GOG version but i guess it's specific to their windows install or drivers, because many people play the game fine.

It has to do with window and/or resolution changes, look here:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/haxelang/tCtgvJNivoU

"When I press escape in an attempt to lave fullscreen and quit, I get the following error:
An ActionScript error has occurred:
Error: Error #3694: The object was disposed by an earlier call of dispose() on it."

Which leads us to the link on stackoverflow i posted.

Unfortunately i don't know more than this..

aha..

Looking at github, it *may* be fixed:

https://github.com/ncannasse/h3d/commit/8564d1093baa74d84dd59f41432eaab329d53fba

Now we need to wait for a new version of Evoland.

Well the fix looks more like debugging.. But they added a lot of fixes recently.

I hope they will upload a new version on GOG soon to see if it's fixed.

There is a patch of Evoland today.
Unfortunately, it still not possible to run the game, here's the new error:

(null): Error: Error #3694
(null): 800x600

(800x600 being replaced by whichever resolution you have).
This corresponds to the github commit i posted in my previous message and means the configureBackBuffer fails. So AIR is failing to work properly :(

Interesting. Ok. This is good info, though. I know that air can use all sorts of different languages, so I wonder what other components might be missing from it? I mean Air in general? Im kind of just shooting in the dark, though.

Hello,
I've been struggling with evoland for a week.

I also get the same error but have found some more things that I'd like to share, maybe someone else can come up with something:

I have managed to get the game running by disabling Flash's hardware accelaration, I did so by installing firefox in the same virtual drive and right clicking on a flash object to get flash settings.
The fps are horrible and I'm still in the 2d worlds, but everything else works fine, it is still annoying but at least I can play the game. Re-enabling Hardware accelaration results in the same error.

I'm using the steam version, therefore I don't have installer for the game and can't use it to make a nre virtual drive, I used the steam to create it.
Debugger doesn't give any evoland related output.

[04/28/13 19:14:18] - Running wine-1.5.25 Steam.exe (Working directory : /home/zzzgaarazzz/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Steam/drive_c/Program Files/Steam)
[0428/191420:ERROR:network_change_notifier_win.cc(111)] WSALookupServiceBegin failed with: 8
[0428/191435:ERROR:network_change_notifier_win.cc(111)] WSALookupServiceBegin failed with: 8

this the whole output I get and I get the same even in my other games that work fine ( skyrim, dragon age origins, portal and portal 2)

My system:
Ubuntu 13.4 x64 (3.8.0-19-generic)
Gnome 3.6
Intel Quad Q9550
Nvidia 9600GT x2 [sli] (310.44 driver)
wine 1.5.25
