Hello
I am in a bit of a predicament, I installed Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 using Version 4.0.14, and yet when I try to launch the game I get an "error trapper" message, stating that there is an "Error Raised- Access Violation, Error Location- Windows Display Driver"

If it helps, I am running only Ubuntu, and all of Windows 7 (including the display and audio drivers for my computer) was erased from my computer after a hard drive incident, I am running solely Ubuntu at the moment.

Thank you for your help!

AK

You do not need drivers for your audio. You should be fine for that.

But as for the DIsplay Driver error, it sounds like you are not able to run 3d acceleration; perhaps you dont have a proprietary video driver installed?

A few things first:

What version of ubuntu?
32 or 64 bit?
computer specs (CPU, ram, video card)?
Are you using proprietary drivers (if using nvidia or ati/amd)?
Version of PlayOnLinux?

Also, please run playonlinux from the terminal (command line), make the error happen, and then post the output of the command line here. All of this info is needed to troubleshoot this issue.

Please refer to the stickies at the top of these forums for forum rules, including searching for your problem first, and how to explain the issues that you are having. :) It makes the whole process SOOOO much smoother.

Here are some links for you to go over when you have the chance, after getting that info.

Hi,

Also, you have no good reason to use such an old version, upgrade to 4.1.9.
(see how on download page here).
New versions embed some video subsystem tests, so to debug this kind of problems upgrading is the very first thing to do.

Well, it was indeed ambiguous, but Wine version is currently 1.5.26 so it couldn't match.
4.0.14 was been a very popular version of PlayOnLinux at the time (December 2011), and it was easy to check.

Sorry, if it wasn't apparent I am a n00b at all of this. I've talked to my software-savy friends and am trying to download the graphics driver, which might fix the problem. I have upgraded to the latest version though.
Thanks for the tips

Im pretty sure that its the graphics driver to begin with.

Dont worry about the noob status. It happens. I mean, to be honest, its kind of complex if you are not used to dealing with this stuff.

But yeah. Get the newest drivers, either using the Additional Drivers option in your control panel (for most ubuntu systems. Its also called jockey), or you can get the drivers from the manufacturers website.

You will probably also notice a performance increase on your system in general. :)

Oh, also, what kind of video card do you have? That will help in getting you the right info to install it.
