The plugins are a whole different animal. Native VST's should work fine, but if you want to run any Windows-based VST's, then you have to run them through Wine and you will likely want to use WineASIO for low-latency audio, but that it is beyond scope here. 

There should be no different process for installation. So far, every install I have done in the Live 9 series has been the same.
