Okay. I am about to bang my head against the wall here. I have the Sims 3 and all the expantions and stuff packs to install. Only, I can't get the original game working 100%. When I run the Sims 3, it runs just fine. Then it gets to the part where it bugs you about the cd check and I can't read anything. The text just looks like a bunch of black blocks. Like the text is so over bold that it became a block. I should also note, at the end of the installation of The Sims 3 (using the Sims 3 POL installer script) wine crashes. After I tell it no i don't want to read the readme and the installer closes, wine crashes and the POL installer hangs at running the installer. So I have to close it and make the shortcut manually. Here is some info:

Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
latest POL 4.1.1
I don't have an actuall model number on this but I have a Mobile Intel® HD Graphics card

It isn't an old computer and should very well be able to run the game just fine. If you need more info, please ask for whatever you need and I will get it for you.

Just tried to install Sims Medieval. Wine crashed during the installation. Internal Errors was the error message. I'm going to try a "program not listed" install with a different wine version.

Okay, I got an error message saying that the setup.exe file is on a fuse filesystem and that might make wine not work properly. Although, the file is on an NTFS partition of an external.

Installing Medieval with "program not listed" yeiled a full install with a wine crash at the end. Running the game crashes before anything comes up.

Installed Sims 3 with "program not listed" and with wine 1.4. No more wine crashing issues. However, still have big over-bold text that can't be read.

Sims Medeival gives a Fatal error in gc: GetTreadContext failed.

Attempt was made with "program not listed" and wine 1.4.

I'm giving up for now.

After messing with it a little more today. I installed World Adventures and noticed the logo and icons that drop down had major graphical issues. So the text problem is likily caused by the same problem I believe. With this new info, I will do some more research.

Reading someone else's post, I found a solution. All I had to do was install driconf and enable S3TC. Bam! All is good.
