okay I tried installing the amd drivers and it messed up my computer so I am just going to get a better graphics card and use that instead.

Thanks for all the help.

Dang, I hate it when that happens. Those older chips don't have the fancy drivers of today.
I'm guessing you are using a laptop, but if this is a desktop, then definitely get a video card. Make sure to get an Nvidia card.
This way Ubuntu & Mint will have the driver for you and will automatically install it. So much easier than using the Terminal.
The GeForce 750 Ti is a pretty nice card for $150.00
It doesn't need any extra power either.

yes, it is a desktop, nvidia card work better on Linux? I glad i learned that because i was looking more into the AMD stuff before you said that.

I am looking for something around €100 and if it needs extra power it is not an issue because I have several extra power connections available.
Thanks for the recommendation.

EDIT: I found this card and I wanted to ask opinions before I bought it, sorry the site is in german. http://www.ebay.de/itm/2048MB-NVIDIA-GeForce-GT630-OC-PC-Grafikkarte-HDMI-DVI-PCI-Express-2GB-GDDR3-MSI-/181417758537?pt=DE_Elektronik_Computer_Computer_Graphikkarten&hash=item2a3d574f49

Awesome, glad I caught you beforehand.
Make sure your motherboard has a PCI-Express slot. there are many different kinds 1.0 2.0 3.0
Some nice cards require a 500 Watt power supply too.
