Hello,
I'm trying out playonlinux, and I've tried installing Ubuntu 12.04 Precise from scratch, then install playonlinux and then tried installing MS Office 2007. I tried this exercise twice: Once for Ubuntu 12.04 and once for Xubuntu 12.04 (my target platform). After installation, I have a MS Word that seems to work fine, but no file associations are set up and there are no entries in my dash (Ubuntu/Unity) or menus (Xubuntu/XFCE).
I see that for playonmac, they
don't get created automatically. But am unclear about what the intent is for playonlinux.
- Is installation of MS Office supposed to create these? There are various
posts about fiddling with integration of associations and menu entries,
but before I go down that path, I'd like to inquire about whether they
are supposed to be created automatically.
- Why are there shortcuts on the desktop instead? Zero linux programs do that...
- Are there similar desktop-integration issues? E.g. FF,thunderbird integration?
- Is this a general approach taken by playonlinux, that there are no file associations and menu integration? I never play games, but would like to use playonlinux. For me, associations and menu integration are an essential part of installation.
- In order to help myself, how do I find/get access to the exact script used when I install an app from the GUI? vim is usually my friend...
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Peter
