Hello, as a fairly new ubuntu user, I'm having problems with steam. The install gose fine but then, when i click to run. POL tells me that the program crashes and to get more info by using the debugger. Heres what the log file shows.

Hi, Most likely you don't have 3D acceleration, at least for 32 bit applications. Upgrading PlayOnLinux should confirm this, as it features a test for this when it is launched. Fixing it on the other hand depends on your video hardware. Pierre.

Thank you for the quick reply, as a new person on ubuntu, how do you update PLayOnLinux? Also as my video hardware is a Hybrid Graphics card, An Intel 3000HD (I'm not sure but I'll correct this if I'm wrong) and an AMD 6470M.

http://www.playonmac.com/en/download.html I do not know much about hybrid graphics, beside the fact they're a pain in the a.. under Linux.

After a clean reinstall of ubuntu (12.0.4) I manage to get AMD's Hybrid control onto linux. Now I'm worried that installing an older version of the recent PlayOnLinux will somehow mess something up. Do I have to wait for a newer update or just use on of the versions listed?

For best experience I'd suggest always using the latest stable version, so currently 4.0.17. Just follow the instructions for Ubuntu Oneiric in the download page and add playonlinux.com repository to your system. I think there's a change coming in 4.0.18 to improve the compatibility with the (now) 64bit Wine package of Ubuntu Precise, hopefully it'll be out soon.

Wine (hence PlayOnLinux) does not support running programs from NTFS filesystem, it may work but we won't give support about such tricks.
