changing the wine version

Everytime I try to change the wine version, it won't work. With the right click-configure, it corrupts farcry2. It won't start or change back. So, I have to remove all, erase the whole virtual drive and reinstall everything. Is there a way to try a new wine version without reinstalling everything? Thanks
