Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas both have the same bug with wine, the first scene is struck and you must enter/exit the option menu a few times for the scene to go on.

Yea I have to esc and click continue once to get it to ask me Boy or Girl, but after that it doesn't continue at all... no matter how many times I hit esc. My laptop is a Sony Vaio and hardware is core2 duo 2.1ghz and Nvidia GeForce 8400m... I don't think the hardware would be causing any issues.

P.S. also my Wine version in configure Wine says it is 1.3.24 whereas my PlayonLinux says 1.3.15-64b Wine version.. this confuses me a bit.. my POL says that 1.3.24 isn't installed.

Got bored last night and did a Natty install on my desktop. seemed like a lot of people have luck with Ubuntu and FO3, but not me. Install went fine, but when POL went to load and config FO3.. it couldn't find the directory. I know its an easy fix, just struggling with the terminal and all the commands. I was also trying to run FO3 in terminal so that I could give you an error report, but I don't seem to be doing it right.

Lets see.. I removed POL and Wine through my synap manager and all the dir through terminal (as root). I then reinstalled POL sudo get-apt.. and then started POL (as root) and installed FO3 so that I could watch the process in terminal. One note on the install of FO3 is that POL installs Wine version 1.3.15-64b which does not work with FO3 on my set-up.. I'm not sure why, but when I use 1.3.15-64b to play FO3 it freezes when loading. So I tried at least 10 other versions of Wine and different wineconfigs before downloading Wine 1.3.24 which is what I'm using to play FO3.. all I had to do was change my Wine default to win7 and change a few of my Library overrides. I will have to look at them again later and post which ones I changed. I hope that this info is helpful. I really enjoyed getting into the configuring and testing to see if it worked!! I'm beginning to understand Linux a lil better. Thank you POL TEAM for your help.

Tinou.. I had to change 2 settings in wineconfig through the config option in POL. msvrc 80 and 90.. had to set to native only.. and a really odd thing is that I had no sound at all until I set my wine default settings to win7. I'm not sure what that had to do with my sound, but as soon as I change it back to xp or vista my sound is gone.

Just an update.. the game is running great!! I have played about 14 hours (3 hours continually last night) and haven't had an issue with game crashes. Great job on the script for FO3!! I would love to update my Nvidia driver to the latest, but manual install seems a bit above my pay grade. :D I have 270.41.06 driver, but saw that there is a newer driver. Its not in my additional drivers library.. any help would be appreciated.

If you're using Ubuntu or Mint, use this repo to have latest X11 files (including graphic drivers) :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Merci Raziel!

Now have Nvidia driver 280.13 and everything is running smoothly. It appeared to have updated a few other things as well.
