The Sims 3 installed properly and loads up until the town menu before an error appears saying that the game cannot find the CD.

I'm having this same problem. If anyone could offer any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not the most computer-savvy person, but this is all the info I know. If you need more, I'd be happy to hunt down the information.

You need to disable anti-piracy protections to make this game work witn GNU/Linux but, since it's illegal in Europe to give hints/links about that, you will have to find how yourself.
