I played Aoe3 a couple days ago and it ran fine so I must have had it configured correctly. Today it won't even start. No errors it just closes. Very confused as it does not show up in the .wine directory at all. I have not tried re-installing. I just wanted to step back and get a few pointers before I start diggin into it.

I just noticed a .playonlinux folder that Aoe3 is installed in.

Applications installed with POL go in $HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/ so that's normal you don't have AoE3 in .wine folder.

Launch POL in a terminal and launche AoE3 to have an error output.

First update POL to latest version (v3.8.3 for now) using ubuntu repo on our website then assign wine 1.2 to AoE3 in POL, it's the best version for this game dixit AppDB.

There is also this bug reported :

If Age of Empires III is crashing when you start it, make sure you have deleted the ~/My Games/Age of Empires 3/Users/NewProfile.xml file.

This problem shouldn't exist if you set VSYNC to "ON" the very first time you start the game.

I updated to POL 3.8.3 and installed wine 1.2 through POL. In the environmet tab, I can select wine 1.2 as default but didn't see how to set only AOE3 to wine 1.2.

I got the game to come up but did not get a chance to play it. THANKS!

I do quite often have a problem getting the CD mounted. What sometimes works is going into wine config and auto detecting the drive until it shows "AoE III Disc 1". Any suggestions?
