i'm running ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx, wine v.1.2-Rc5 and POL v.3.7.6 and i'm trying to run sims 3 on my laptop. each time i solve one problem i encounter another so i'm giving and asking for help. i think i've done everything i can from googling and the forum.

The sims 3 is installed but i try and run it from POL (started in console) and after seeing a blue screen for a few seconds it disappears and the console produces:

"Running The Sims 3

and then blank.

i'm thinking it might be something i've looked in the installation process but i can't figure it out. any help is appreciated.

What graphic card does you laptop has and what drivers you use?

i have an ATI Radeon X1200 (integrated, it's a laptop), direct rendering is on if you needed to know, but i don't think i have any other/propriety drivers installed other than whatever was installed when i installed ubuntu. i'll have a look and see if i can find one, can't be too hard. doing a little research, apparently ati catalyst linux software supports the radeon x1200 series.
Is that what you think the problem is then?

i did some research and found out that i can't install the 'legacy driver' from ATI because it only supports ubuntu 8.04 and earlier or something, and im on 10.04. So the only driver i can install is the open source one that was installed from the beginning.

i have heard a few people say that aRadeon X1200 graphics card is decent enough to handle sims 3 though, so i don't know where to go from here, is the driver the likely cause? I thought (hoped) it was something i hadn't installed or moved to the right place.

Hardware is decent but drivers are weak. I think you cannot do anything about it.

BTW. NVIDIA is better choice for future purchase.
