Hello everyone at PlayonLinux!

I have a really weird problem. I did a search, and read both FAQs in this section and it doesn't answer my problem. Maybe it's a newbie thing, since I'm really new to linux.

Here are my details:
OS: Ubuntu x86 version 9.04
Desktop: Gnome
Wine: Trying to install 1.1.23, see the post below
Specs: 3gb ram, NVIDIA 8400, Vostro 1510 notebook

Okay so here is my problem, I hope you can help. I have The Sims 3 and would like to install it. I click Install in POL, look for TS3, hit Apply.

POL starts up the prior installer for TS3, I hit Forward. Then it asks what version of Wine do I want to use.

The options are:
patched 1.1.23 (recommended)
patched latest version (not tested)
unpatched

I leave it on patched 1.1.23 and hit Forward.

And nothing happens. At all. It just sits there with the Forward button greyed out, still on the WineVersion screen.

Here is a screenshot of what I mean.

Update: I got to the installer!

What I did was, I closed POL and updated Wine to the latest dev release. Then when I went to install TS3 and it asked for a Wine version, I picked unpatched.

Does the Wine version I installed manually work with POL? Or will POL not recognize that I have an updated Wine?

It's not a newbie thing. POL's wine version server is down and POL doesn't notify about that. Now you must wait till Server will be up and there will be no problem. You cannot do anything about it :)

Thank you for the reply, NSLW.

Do you know when the server will be up? I think because I didn't install Wine through POL, did it manually, POL doesn't detect my current Wine version 1.1.23.

So I can't run The Sims 3 because there is no Wine list. Does the server have to be online every time I want to play something?

Hi Munin,

Do you know when the server will be up?

We don't know when the server will be up again but it should be ok tomorrow or the day after tomorrow at worst.

No, absolutely not :D It's required only during the installation.
Once an application is installed, unless it needs to be online (MMORPG for example), you are free to use it offline or not.

Bye

I installed TS3 without choosing a wine version though. How do I install Wine in POL when the server is up?

In order to install a specific version of Wine in POL, use the WineVersion tool (accessible via Tools > Manage Wine versions).

Oh thank you! No more worries now. Just need to wait for the server to go back up. Thanks =D
