My computer is running ATI RADEON 9600 which according to The Sims 3 system requirments should work just fine with the game. Also, a short check in Wikipedia shows that this video card DOES support pixelshader2.

Do you run 64 bit OS? If so then you have to additionally install 32 bit graphic drivers.

It seems that you are new Linux user, so maybe i'll introduce you to the politics of ATI on Linux, namely they don't care about good graphic drivers for this system, better choice is NVIDIA.
according to The Sims 3 system requirments
according to this requirements The Sims 3 shouldn't be working on Linux :p

As i remember correctly on Ubuntu 9.04 there is no fglrx drivers for your card. Your card is simply no more supported by ATI. ATI likes to make its customers happy :sunglasses: Edited by NSLW

I have a new Dell Inspiron 1545 with a GMA 4500 card in it. I am getting the same error message. I am running 9.04, I assume 64 bit (new to Ubuntu so I don't know hoe to check yet).
You mention installing the 32 bit drivers. If this is the issue for me and if so, how would I go about doing this? Please let me know.

I do know that you must do it for NVIDIA, but I do not know how to do it for Intel cards if it's required at all.

I used your install script. Is there any other settings that need to be made in the registry or in Wine? Please let me know.
