I run CS 1.6 without any problems with Wine 1.1.18 on stable Fedora 10 so my advice is:

1) try with stable Ubuntu because your 9.04 is still in developing phase (beta indicates that) and you have to take into account that not all features works. Stable release is Ubuntu 8.10

2) Try to install it with Wine and see what is happening

Thanks NSLW!

I'll try it with Ubuntu 8.10, even though the new WIP 9.04 has proven to be just as stable for me as 8.10 and I've been using it on my pc since alpha 4.

Have tried it with Wine and the same thing happens. Why can't they just port the games to Linux? :(

Hello again!

I've retested this under Ubuntu Jaunty with kernel 2.6.29.1 which includes GEM and brought a great graphics performance increase for the Intel onboard stuff.

The issue is the alsa sound. When I disabled it in wineconfig everything went smoothly. This seems to be the root of the problem.

As per the instructions I also tested this in Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10) with the same 2.6.29.1 kernel and the same issue appeared. Disabling alsa in wine seems to be a temporary work-around.

I have also run this under normal wine with the same results.

If anyone is having video issues with onboard Intel I suggest getting the new kernel!

Does anyone know how to fix this alsa sound problem?

You can try:

1) emulate alsa driver which can be set in "Wine configuration"
2) try OSS audio driver
3) patch Wine source with PulseAudio patch and then set PulseAudio driver in "Wine configuration"

Personally i use three patches for PulseAudio on stable Fedora 10 with kernel 2.6.27
The issue with them is that you can not use mic in CS but everything else is O.K.

Hi. Us i can see you use SERVER kernel! SERVER kernel don't support proprietary driver for your video card!
If you want to play in 3d games in Linux -- you mast install generic kernel.
Linux 2.6.28-11-server . -- its recommended only for server.
