Hi, I'm using ubuntu 8.04 on the gnome enviroment. I have had Diablo II installed on this computer before while using the same ubuntu. But now for some reason when I install it, it won't pass the video test. It says " No Video Modes Found" and "Install directx 6.1 or newer and install current video drivers matching the version of directx you have installed." It also says" Error 22: A critical error occurred while initializing direct draw" when i try to just run the game without doing the video test. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

hello,
It might be helpful if you could tell us what happened between the time "when it worked fine" and the moment it "started to not go well for some reason" ... did you install something? upgrade an application maybe? installed new drivers?
In any case, it seems very unlikely that the game just stopped working for no reason, something must have triggered it ... if you could remember what might have happened.
Did you check in administration > peripheral drivers to see if your drivers were installed at all?
If there is a problem, fill out complaint form and place it in an envelope addressed to the name of the hospital in which you were born....

I honestly can't remember what I have installed. What needs to be installed exactly for Diablo II to run? I'm still pretty new to linux, so I don't even know how to install the right drivers. It screws up after I install codecs like gstreamer and stuff like that to get my rythmbox to work. And after I remove those codecs it just doesnt work anymore.

I'm not sure I understand ,
did you have Diablo II installed via playonlinux or just via wine? and did you check to see if the drivers were installed (administration -> peripheral drivers) ? if they aren't installed, you should be able to do it from there (I think) .
If your game is installed via playonlinux, run playonlinux via your console (juste type in playonlinux) and try launching the game... if you get an error message, paste it here please.

the upgrade probably reinstalled something that was needed but had been uninstalled before.
it's good that it worked out fine
