I will start with, Why does the whineprefix Versions doesn't have listed the latest releases of Wine?

wine 1.1.14(current)

PlayonLinux does use its own built in Wine (System) or does it need an external Wine installed?

I have Wine 1.1.14 installed externally in my Linux OS, but I'm not sure if PlayonLinux use it, since it have its own Wineprefix integrated, with default System version.

So do I need to have wine installed in my PC before installing and using PlayonLinux?

Yes or no? and why.

Thanks
Sorry, for not introducing my self, I'm fr334rtisT(Joey), and I'm glad this App exist for Linux OS and this forum is here so our doubts were answered.

Hi fr334rtisT,

Why isn't Wine 1.1.14 available in Wine versions manager? The answer is in this news.

About which Wine is used by POL, here's how it works:
POL needs an "external" version of Wine, i.e. the one installed in your system by your package manager (this is the one called "System" in Wine versions manager). POL will use it by default for every game except if you defined another version for a certain game in Wine versions manager or if an installation script set it at the end of the installation. We do so for some particular games which are known to fully work with a specific version of Wine (for example, we do so in Age of Empires II script).

Is that clear enough?

Ok, Thanks, I kind of figure that "System" is the Whine 1.1.14 installed in my OS when I look in PlayonLinux>Settings>System...

This is my Laptop Structure:
My OS is Ubuntu 8.10 ported to Ubuntu Studio 8.10
Gphx card: AMD/ATI Xpress 1150 256MB
Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology
RAM: 1GB (512/512)

1)So you are saying that POL needs an external Version of Wine in order to work, but if I choose from Wine version manager I don't need to use the external version?

2)Or that Poll will use the external Wine (System) and the Wine in the Wine version manager to work better with certain games?

3) Wine 1.1.14 wasn't in the Wineversion Manager because it's not stable in every System(OS),right?

4) Do you happen to have a script for Spore? Its really laggy, when I start the creator, I mean I can't even see the creature, I just see distortion. And its slow, not so slow but slow.

Thanks, Hope you explain me more about this...

Yes, you can tell POL to use by default another version than you system's one (in Options > Environment ) but even doing that will not allow you to remove your package of Wine (with apt-get) because Wine is a dependency of PlayOnLinux package.
So you can't remove the Wine package without removing the PlayOnLinux one.

2)Or that Poll will use the external Wine (System) and the Wine in the Wine version manager to work better with certain games?

Yes, POL use your system's Wine except if you (or an installation script) tells it to use another version for a particular game.

No
There is a new release of Wine every two weeks, on Friday evening but our script to automatically compile the new release, is run only in the night between Sunday and Monday. It means Wine 1.1.14 will be available in POL's Wine versions manager tomorrow

Yes, we have a script for Spore, as you can see HERE.
And you certainly can find tricks to improve Spore's performances in the related pages of the Wine AppDB.

Yes .. and due to a bug in the script, it will be available this night.
I explained what happened in French here
In few word I have stopped the NFS server Sunday, to upgrade it and I forget to restart it after update.
And I made a mistake in the script (an untested function). Due to this mistake, the script started a full rebuild step (every release from wine 0.9 to 1.1.14).
I corrected, and double checked that the script was been working.
Release will be available this night at (approximately) 1 hour UTC.
