I'm too new to POL to know what question to ask, but here's my situation:

  1. I'd like to install e-Sword on Ubuntu Mate 2022.01 running POL 4.3.4.
  2. "Manual" installation attempts have failed.
  3. I see on https://www.playonlinux.com/en/app-2606-eSword.html a button that says, "Install this program," but clicking it only throws this error message — No Apps available. No apps installed that can open "…nux.com/repository/download.php?id=2606."
  4. I tried to copy/paste the provided code into a bash file, saved it, set permissions, and ran it, but only to receive the following message: /usr/bin/env: ‘playonlinux-bash’: No such file or directory

The solution may be obvious to a regular user of POL, but I'm stymied. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What do you mean with that? I'm not clear on that part. As far as I know, e-sword.net are same apps with sabda.org, and it just need installer on wine, no need for dependencies, just download the exe/msi, and install it normally, and it will works as it's.

Probably if you need more ensuring the need, you can see the winetricks/dependencies it need as listed :

    • POL_Install_corefonts
    • POL_Install_d3dx9
    • POL_Install_tahoma
    • POL_Install_msxml3
    • POL_Install_msxml6

Thank you for your reply.

I guess the simplest way to re-state the question is this:

On the https://www.playonlinux.com/en/app-2606-eSword.html page, how do I get the blue [Install this program] button to work?

Apparently, associated with this button is an e-Sword setup script which some helpful person has created, tested, and verified. But clicking on the button from my browser (Firefox 106.0.5) causes a pop-up to inform me that I need some other software to process the button's code. I don't know how to proceed.

Thanks.

Just copy paste the script into any text editor, and allow it to be executable.

On fedora just run the script using /usr/share/playonlinux/playonlinux-bash /path/to/script

It will install as is, if your browser support playonlinux:// protocol, select playonlinux

For more see https://wiki.playonlinux.com/index.php/First_Use

Anyway as e-sword is works out the box, you can just install using non-listed program or type e-sword on the installs search box... e-sword is shown on the list when searched, and prepare the exe file... select the exe when you are asked to provide the executable. Just follow the installation, and it will works as it is..
