but when I click on the window to make it 'active' it goes blank like the first example

 

Is this something I am doing wrong?

You're a bit ahead of time with Ubuntu 30.04.

The problem may be with your Linux theme and/or its light/dark modes. Have you tried switching the Controls section or the entire theme, at least temporary, to check?

Having same problem on 20.04.  I can not install any programs.  Also having problem when installing the program asks for me to check a box.  There are no words displayed.  I made the font smaller, no change.
