Hi,
I've been using Windows for twenty-some years and Linux for about two months, so total newbie here. I went with Zorin because it was said to already have Wine integrated so we could just doubleclick Windows executables and have them install, but apparently that got removed because too many people were getting viruses.
This trouble I'm having is only a minor annoyance at the moment (because I do have a Win10 laptop as well, but that one's supposed to be only for work so I'd like to switch more fully to Linux). I don't want to be a pain, but I am hoping that the information I'm providing can be helpful in fixing the problem. Thanks!
Toshiba Satellite C50-A
Memory 3.7 GiB
Processor Intel® Celeron(R) CPU 1005M @ 1.90GHz × 2
Graphics Intel® HD Graphics 2500 (IVB GT1)
OS type 64-bit
Disk 105.8 GB
Zorin version 15.3 (dual boot with Win7Pro, if that matters)
Play on Linux version 4.3.4
I'm trying to install Adobe Digital Editions (because it no longer works properly with Win7 - Overdrive links refuse to download), which is listed as a test version in the Install a Program menu.
It creates the virtual drive, then says it's removing Mono (the ellipsis makes me think I need to wait for it, but it doesn't have a progress bar - it would be more friendly to newbies coming from Windows if it had a progress bar of some kind to make clear when it's done and I should click Next).
Then it says it's installing .NET 4.0 (again, a progress bar of some kind would be helpful - I can't tell if I'm messing it up by clicking Next) and then 4.5, then stops with error:
mscorsvw.exe - Assert Failure
Expression: [mscorlib recursive resource lookup bug]
Description: Infinite recursion during resource lookup within mscorlib. This may be a bug in mscorlib, or potentially in certain extensibility points such as assembly resolve events or CultureInfo names.
Resource name: Arg_ExternalException
When I Abort or Ignore, Wine gives me this error:
Program Error
The program mscorsvw.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check the Application Database for tips about running this application.
I have to Cancel the installation to get it to stop looping the Assert Failure and Program Error, regardless of whether I use Abort or Ignore.
Wine also gives a backtrace log:
