Steam won't launch any games

Hey, so I downloaded Steam through POM and installed Fallout 3. Then when I launched the game the Fallout launcher appeared, but after clicking play the launcher disappeared, and nothing else happened. I tried installing several games, but the same happens.

Any clue as to why this is happening?
